Germany, the flywheel of the European Union, is the most popular destination for emigrants from within the EU, but also from countries such as Turkey, Ukraine and Syria. There is also a large group of citizens from Poland, Spain, Greece, Lithuania and Italy working in Germany. It is interesting to note that one in four inhabitants of the German capital is not German. It is hardly surprising that a large Tesla factory is being built near Berlin, and the proximity of the Polish border makes it possible to employ many professionals from Poland who can work in Germany without having to move.

I had the opportunity to make a short tour of Germany in connection with the recent European Football Championship. And I can safely say that Germany is missing the most Germans. Let me explain. You can see that there is a shortage of staff everywhere, whether in hotels or restaurants. The person who takes the order at the bar is already a waiter a moment later. As a result, you have to wait a long time to order; I waited about an hour for my meal. From my observations alone, it is clear that there is a shortage of salespeople, cashiers or waiters in Germany. My observations are confirmed by official figures for 2024, there is a shortage of labour in Germany in as many as 200 professions.

What professions are in demand in Germany?

1. Engineering
Germany has long been renowned for its engineering prowess, with a strong focus on innovation and technology.
